The Witches of East End Review

2

I finished reading The Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz a couple of months ago. I read it because I really wanted to read it, knowing full well that it probably wasn’t going to be something that was really for the blog. However, since the purpose of the site is to allow readers to see content of what they themselves, or their children, will be reading I decided to include it. Normally, Melissa is a young adult fantasy novel author and so those who read the other books may transition easily over to any of her other works. By no means am I saying this novel is graphic, but it’s not your typical book for the average 14 year old girl. I’ll get to the rankings at the end… first let me tell you about it!

I WANT TO BUY WITCHES OF EAST END

One of my top tens when I was a teenager was Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. It was the typical story of a family of women who were all witches and who could do magic… and I loved it. My biggest obsession is with Magic, and those are my favorite fantasy novels. Yes even above a good vampire flick. This book hits all the same strings as Practical Magic, and even adds some supernatural twists of where it all comes from, Gods, Goddesses etc. It’s great. Very creative and intriguing. The twist at the end is fabulous. I wasn’t set on having to read another one in the series until the very very very last page. Awesome work Melissa.

Definitely worth picking up if you are okay with the following:

RANKINGS

B

Moderate to explicit sexual content. Some descriptions of sexual acts including oral.

Some casual use of foul language

Limited violence. Nothing to be concerned over

Moderate drinking, No smoking, No drug use

Age Recommendation: 16 and up

I love practical magic! Such a good movie! Hm, I’m surprised it has oral sex in it, to me, that doesn’t belong in YA. Call me old fashioned.

I 100% agree with you… on each comment :)
