Our goal as reviewers is to provide you the information you want before you or your children read a book. The vampire craze has brought hundreds of new sci-fi and fantasy books within our reach, and they are all very different in plot and in content. Rankings are meant to help you understand how appropriate the latest vampire, post-apocalyptic, or werewolf book is for you or your teenagers.

Ranking Descriptions

First we give each book a grade. This is relative, but basically we tell you if we liked the book! The more you read the books we review, the more you’ll know if you should trust our opinion. We grade just like school, A through F and with pluses and minuses.

Second we rank the sexual content. You will see the following: No, Limited, Some, Moderate, Explicit, and Graphic Sexual Content. For anything moderate through graphic we will provide a small description of why we rated the content this strongly. For an example see the Hunted review from the House of Night series by PC Cast.

Third we rank language. You will see the following: No, Limited, Some, Moderate, Explicit and Graphic Language. Anything below moderate excludes the F word. Anything above Explicit is extremely mature and is crudely pornographic.

Fourth we rank violence. You will see the following: No, Limited, Some, Moderate, Explicit and Graphic Violence. Moderate violence has anything to the extent of a brutal injury that is superficially described. Anything above moderate contains more description of the violence and the injuries. Graphic violence is sexual in nature.

Fifth we rank drinking, drug use, and smoking. You will see No, Some, Moderate, High, and Extreme in the description of each. All references No through High content are all appropriate and although the presence is in the novel to that degree it is not offensive. Extreme use of alcohol or drugs refers to the acts surrounding the use and involves illegal activities as well. Extreme smoking will probably not be seen.

Last, we will give an age recommendation for the novel. This is relative of course, but it will hopefully help in giving you an idea of who should be reading this book.
