The Heart of the Graystone Book Review

0

This is M.K. Browns very first book. He found me through this website, and asked if I would review his book. I agreed, as I love finding new authors. I have had a chance to read the book, and I was surprised at how much I liked this book.

Fantasy books are the genre we focus on the most with this site. Although, I don’t know if the books we review are pure fantasy. Fantasy novels usually take place in an alternate world where magic exists, a perfect example is Lord of the Rings series. While series like Twilight, Blue Bloods, and Shiver series all take place in this world and have fantastical characters.

Mockingjay Book Review | Hunger Games Series

1

For anyone who knows how I feel about this series, love it! It should be no surprise that I was anxiously awaiting the release of this novel. I pre-ordered my books, waited at the local bookstore until midnight to pick it up, took this morning off so I could stay up all night and read it. We were the second people in line, and were back at my house by 12:20 to start reading this book. I was absolutely riveted and amazed at where Suzanne took the story. It was worth staying up until 5 am to read the whole book.

I won’t make this a long review. The book is amazing, but it is so complex that I don’t want to accidentally say something I shouldn’t.

The biggest thing is that this book is much more violent then the last two. This seems surprising as the last two are focused on children killing children. But this is an all out civil war, and the are causalities are high. Characters we care about, and have devoted our time and energy are both wounded physically and mentally. The intensity of the book surprised me, and I caught myself tearing up at parts that were especially overwhelming.

Protector of the Small Quartet Book Review

0

This book review is for a series not just one individual book. The Protector of the Small is four books. The first two are smaller and build up to the last two books. This is one of my less favorites of Tamora Pierce’s books, although that doesnt mean much. I love this author and I enjoy almost all of her books.

I enjoy the world that Tamora has created in her Tortall legends. It is filled with all types of magic and fantastical creatures. The characters take the magical talents they have and go on some amazing adventures.

13 to Life Review: A New Series

0

13 to Life: a young adult fantasy novelMore than your average fantasy book! Let’s pretend that werewolves no longer frighten you, no longer surprise you, and you are craving a new twist. This book gives that to you. My favorite is that the main male character is Russian, further feeding my obsession with Dimitri from the Vampire Academy Series.

I picked up this book on just a whim, I had no idea what it was about or what it would contain, mostly because the description of the book’s plot is extremely limited on the back cover. However, the more I read, the more I wanted to read. It was easy to read and I was entertained through the book, but it has some interesting character development.

I WANT TO BUY 13 TO LIFE

There’s not a lot of character depth yet, as this is the first book in a series. This was also problematic because most of the book was building up the background and the stage for the problem that the later books I am sure will solve. And the problem? A good one! Not the vampire loves the girl but they can’t be together, and not just your average book where vampires and pixies and all the folklore characters are normal either. If you are a conspiracy theorist, you should definitely read this book. A perfect addition to the young adult addition we all have.

RATINGS

B

Limited Sexual Content, Including reference to teenagers having sex, but they don’t have sex and no descriptions are used

Limited Language

Limited Violence, Including the Russian Mafia, the Police and Guns as weapons

No Drinking, Drugs, or Alcohol

Age Recommendation 12+

Hush, Hush Book Review | Hush, Hush Series

4

I was worried about reading and doing the book review for Hush, Hush due to the fact that I have this preconceived notion that all angel books are the same. I know that this isn’t true, but I was still afraid to purchase the book. A good friend of mine asked if I had read this book yet, I told her the reason why I hadn’t read it. She assured me it wasn’t the same, and told me I needed to read it. I took her advice and purchased the book.

Linger Book Review | The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series 2

During the last couple weeks I haven’t been following books like I usually do. I really enjoyed Shiver, read my review here, and was extremely excited for Linger to be released. Except, I forgot it was coming out as soon as it did. It came out a few weeks ago, and I apparently missed the whole thing!

So I saw it was released, and I had to run out and buy it immediately. I read most of it the first night. In the first book Grace and Sam finally make it in the end and I am so happy for them,

The Van Alen Legacy | Blue Bloods Series

0

This is the forth book in the Blue Bloods series, and I believe there will only be one more. Being the book that leads up to the last is a big responsibility, and I felt this book held it weight. There was love and heartbreak,  death and rebirth, everything that it needs to be to keep me captivated.

In this book I really start to enjoy Mimi. I think she is self centered, and I kind of hate her. The thing is, she knows who she is and doesn’t apologize for it. She also has a hard time with her destiny, and I just love her all the more for it.

Uglies Series | Pretties Review

Pretties: a young adult science fiction novel

The second book of the Uglies Series, Pretties, was excellent! The young adult science fiction series, started off a little slow for me, but picked up at the end of the first book Uglies and I’ve been hooked ever since. Tally, the main character, has entered the next phase of both the society (which is to become cosmetically beautiful and mentally vapid) and the next phase in the espionage of the society as well. It suits Tally to be fighting for something, but her character is also a little too young to understand many of the implications her actions have on those around her; she’s easiliy taken in and easily forgetful of her friends/family. She forgets Shay and David, but I didn’t fault her for it, although I did feel that it shows her immaturity and need to grow up. However, this aspect of her personality is extremely appealing to younger readers and easy for them to read and relate. Read the rest of this entry »

Revelations Book Review | Blue Bloods Series

Revelations Book Review | Blue Bloods Series

I really enjoyed the first two books of the Blue Bloods Series, but this book really drives the series for me. The first books of this series were a little slow, but since they weren’t super long, I was OK with it. I think if this book was as slow as the first two, I wouldn’t have continued. Everything really starts to come together for the final books. The bad guys reveal themselves, and the love story starts to get the attention it deserves.

So, in this book you again get to see the story from different points of view, but Skuyler is still the main character.

Masquerade Book Review | Blue Bloods Series

0

So when I finished Masquerade, the second book of the Blue Bloods Series, I felt a little thrown off from what I read on the back of the book. The synopsis really only scratches the surface of the actual situation. It seems like the plot is only about the masquerade that Mimi is throwing. In actuality it is about the murder of blue blood vampires. This isn’t the end of their cycle, but the end of their existence. Again, I feel like the book is so focused on a by invite only party that it misses out on the best part of the book. If it wasn’t for the fact that I really enjoyed the first book I wouldn’t have followed it to a second.

In each book of the point of view is seen from multiple people, but the main character is Skuyler.

Blue Blood Book Review

I was hesitant to read this series. Mostly because I am currently reading two other vampire series, and I am feeling a little vamped out. I gave in, and like usual I am astounded by how unique the plot is. None of the series have the vampires from our history. Blue Bloods is no different.

In this series vampires are the angels that fought alongside Lucifer. They were banished to the earth to live off of human blood as their punishment.Their live cycles are usually about 100 years, and then they get reborn into a new body. The blue blood that they carry gives them their name and distinction.

A Kiss In Time | Fantasy Book Reviews

1

This is another modern retelling of a fairytale we all know, Sleeping Beauty. The author is Alex Flinn, who wrote Beastly. When you were younger, did you ever wonder why a man would kiss a sleeping woman? To be honest it seems a little creepy! I know that in the version I read Beauty and her kingdom were asleep for 100 years. How would her kingdom adapt after such a time? Well, those are some of the questions asked and answered in this book.

Alex Flinn does an amazing job bringing this young innocent girl into the 21 century. She is completely surprised at how people have changed.

Shiver Book Review | The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series

Shiver Book Review

Shiver was suggested to me by a very good friend. Since she enjoys the same type of books I do, I decided to do a search to find the author. It really only took me a few minutes on her site www.maggiestiefvater.com/shiver to decide to go to the bookstore to look at the book. The cover is really pretty, done in a silvery blue. I opened the book, and this is really what made me purchase right there and then. The pages are a soft white color and the print is the same color as the blue on the cover. It made for a pleasant reading experience, very pretty and easy on the eyes.

Many of the books I have read in the past month have been enjoyable, and this one tops the list for me.

Last Survivors Series | Life As We Knew It Book Review

Book Review for Life As We Knew It

Unlike most of the stories that we read and review this story is not fantasy or really even science fiction. It is a fictional story following 16-year-old Miranda. She has 2 best friends who recently buried one of their other best friends. She wishes that she could ice skate professionally, and that she had a date to prom. During the spring of her senior year an asteroid is projected to hit the moon. No one expected what would happen next, of the moon moving into orbit closer to the earth. The world as Miranda knows it.

One thing that I do not like about the style of this book is that it is written as a journal.

Fallen Book Review

Fallen Book Review

Fallen takes place in the deep south, in reformed prep school. This prep school is old and decrepit, with an old chapel and a cemetery on the grounds. When I say reformed, I mean the students that attend there required to be there, typically from a judgment. Something about me; I spent the majority of my teenage years living in Georgia. There is just something about the humid lush green-ness that I love and miss now living in Utah. Lauren Kate does an incredible job with describing the grounds to really make me feel like I was back in the south.

The main character in this story is another troubled young girl. She has been able to see these dark shadows that seem to stalk her. This has caused her to be on medication more often not during the last few years, forced by her fearful parents.
