Recently I have been reading all of my books on an electronic device. When I log on to buy a bew book, Amazon tells me they have recommendations for me. This was one of the first ones. So, I bought the book for $.99, and enjoyed every moment of it.
This story is one we have all enjoyed before; in movies like X-Men, and books like I Am Number 4. There are people around us that have special powers, or in this story Talents. This is worriesome to the government because of how the Talented could use their powers against what they view as good. Students at the local high school go ‘missing’, taken from their families by the government because it has been found out they have a Talent.
We follow Joss, a girl in high school that has a Talent. She tries to keep herself from being noticed by anyone. This means she can’t get too good of grades, as well as too bad of grades. This works until she meets Kat, who insists on being her friend. At the same time Dylan finally decides he wants to begin the relationship both have wanted but didn’t know the other wanted.
Two things separate this book apart from similar stories. The plot is the first thing. It starts like the others, but immediately takes an intriguing turn that definitely makes it stand out. The second is the character developement. You don’t question decisions that the characters make, and this is because you know the characters well enough to feel confident in their choices.
I feel like I took a chance with this book. Not the cost of it, but the time that it takes to read a book. I feel like this was a solid decision, and I cannot wait until the second book in the series comes out.
