Ender’s Game Sage | Ender’s Shadow Review

Ender's Shadow, Ender's Game Series

Ender’s Shadow is the second book in the Ender’s Game series that follows Bean. There’s another direction of the series that follows Ender, but this story retraces the steps of the first book from a new perspective

The coolest thing about the Ender’s Game Series, or Saga, is that the series goes in two different directions. After the first book you can choose what story you want to follow first. The next book could either follow Ender, and there’s a whole series dedicated to that side of the story, OR you can follow Bean and there’s another series dedicated to this character and his story. I chose Bean, hence the name, Ender’s Shadow.

Ender is the main character and the star of the first book, and this doesn’t change very much in the second book, but you see the underlying reasons why things happen for Ender the way that they do during the story. So as you can guess, Ender’s Shadow retraces a new character through the same timeframe as the first book. I really liked the first book, Ender’s Game, but compared to the first book Ender’s Shadow is phenomenal. It’s so entertaining and intriguing. You really find how truly intelligent and masterful Bean is and it’s captivating. It also gives you more insight into just how desperate the officials are to find the right mind and the

right person who can lead the armies against the buggers.

Ender’s Games Saga | Ender’s Game Book Review

Ender’s Game Book Review, movie release in theaters November 2013

I just barely finished reading Ender’s Game for the first time, which, I know, I should have read this a long time ago. How do I even begin talking about this epic book!? With the movie to be released this November, I had to put the review up for everyone who plans to read the book before the movie comes out, but I’m intimidated by what to write. The first thing I have to tell you about Ender’s Game is that if you loved Hunger Games, this is definitely your style!

Fallen Series | Torment Book Review

Torment: a young adult book from the fallen seriesTorment is the second book in the Fallen series, the fourth has just been released recently. This means I needed to catch up on this series. I re-read Fallen and Torment, and bought Passion and Rapture.

The second book of this series seems as different from the first as it can get. In the first book Luce is at this reform school in the deep south. The school itself if old and decrepit with bars on all the windows, and the landscape is overrun by green vines called kudzu. The first couple chapters of Torment, she is moved, for her safety, to a school that couldn’t be more different. She is on the opposite coast, as a posh private school, where nephilim can be taught from angels themselves.

Mortal Instruments Series | City of Lost Souls Review

City of Lost Souls: a young adult fantasy novelCity of Lost Souls is book 5 of 6 in the Mortal Instruments series. As I read this book, I realized I am only beginning to realize the genius of Cassandra. I really liked the first 3 books, but feel like it has been the next two books in this series, and the two books in Infernal Devices that she is really showing her forethought. She has brought characters in from City of Glass, into Clockwork Angel, and back into City of Lost Souls. It makes me want to read all of her books again to see all the ties.

Now back to City of Lost Souls. The cliffhanger at the last book was us losing Jace & Sebastian. In this book Clary, being Clary, decides to join them in hopes of saving Jace. This reminds me of Rose and Demetri in Vampire Academy,

Silence Book Review | Hush Hush Saga

Hush Hush Sage, Silence: a young adult fantasy novelI hope you’ve all read the other books in the Hush Hush Saga, this is the third in the series. Now where I felt like Crescendo’s plot wasn’t the strongest, I feel like Silence’s was intense and really kind of scary. We start weeks after the cliffhanger ending of Crescendo, and Nora wakes up with amnesia.

I really like this new (old) Nora, she reminds me of the girl from the first book. She doesn’t want the apparent trauma that she went through to effect her future. She has some hard times in trying to go back into her normal life, but that makes her more real to me.

City of Fallen Angels Review | The Mortal Instruments Series

City of Fallen Angels: A Young Adult Fantasy NovelI know my review on Cassandra Clare’s fourth book in her young adult fantasy series The Moral Instruments, is very late, especially since City of Lost Souls is already out. Don’t worry, I will post that review right after this one. I am very sad that now I have to wait another 2 full years for the last book. At least we have the last in the Infernal Devices series to keep us satisfied, in-between now and then. Enough about that, now to this book.

I was so excited to hear that Cassandra was going to continue this story, and have it be more from Simon’s centric. I really enjoy his story, how I think he is the most normal of all of the characters. To be honest, I feel like other books glorify the opportunity of becoming a vampire. This story focuses one what it would really feel like, staring down eternity, by yourself.

Crescendo Review | Hush, Hush Series

Crescendo: young adult fantasy book novelSo, I have read Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick twice since it came out. It’s the second book in the Hush Hush young adult fantasy series. I read it right when it came out and again when Silence, the third book came out. I like rereading books, and was glad I waited so long to reread this one. Had I remembered this book so clearly, I might not have bought the third. Don’t worry, I liked this book, and the next. I just didn’t LOVE this book.

I was sure exactly where Becca Fitzpatrick was going to go with this book, since the first one ended so cleanly. SPOILERS Nora got the guy (actually an angel), and her angel got his wings back.

Divergent Series | Divergent Review

Divergent: A young adult science fiction novelThe first of a three book series, the other two of which are soon to be released, Divergent is the best book I’ve read since the Hunger Games Series. To put into perspective for you, I haven’t read a collection of books that I have enjoyed so much since I was in grade school and obsessed with Nancy Drew. I know everyone remembers Nancy Drew! Oh, and Goosebumb, let’s not forget Goosebumps!

Divergent is an awesome read. I would classify it in the same genre as the Hunger Games and I would say that the feelings of suspense, anxiety, and emotional connection to the characters are very similar. Veronica Roth did an amazing job with this book. I’m having trouble waiting for the next book. At this point, now having read it, I’d like to see what inspired the book and how she came up with the idea. That’s one of the most intriguing pieces of the Hunger Games novels is that is was inspired by reality TV. I love the twist that gives the book because it literally makes you say, “oh wow, ya I can completely see that!”
